The Bobrick B-4998 is a swing-up grab bar made of 18-8, type-304, 18-gauge stainless steel tubing with a 1-1⁄4″ outside diameter and heliarc welded ends. It has a satin-finish, slip-resistant surface, and a peened surface is available by adding suffix .99. The bar is raised by hand, and a counterweighted design keeps it from falling once it reaches the full upright position. It mounts on a 3⁄16″ thick type-304 satin stainless backplate and extends 29″ from the wall when lowered. It supports loads in excess of 500 pounds if properly installed, and anchors and screws are not included, so backing must be provided before the wall is finished.
